Why did both Java Rice parents die at the same time?
I had 2 Java Rice finch and they were nesting. The momma had 2 eggs and was very protective of them. I give them fresh food and water everyday and noticed that they were both in the nest box. I just thought they were being cozy. Anyhow, today was day 2 that I didnt see them come out at all, not even when I tapped the nest box, so I opened it. They were both dead! I know the proper care, no sprays of any kind, no perfumes, no non stick cookware, no new seeds or new foods, good temperature, never went hungry or thirsty, What could have gone wrong? Why would thye both die?
Losing both at the same time is rough. If either parent survived, you could have had a successful nesting.
You didn’t say what their diet was. If you were feeding a seed diet, did you sprout seeds at any time to test their viability? Seeds that don’t sprout have lost all their nutrients. While it looks fine, the birds could be starving.
I always sprout seeds to test them and it’s a treat for the birds.
